NETZWERK

SHANNON SULLIVAN is a poet and multidisciplinary performance artist.

She received her classical dance training at several renowned schools in the USA: Joffrey Ballet School, Boston Ballet School and North Carolina School of the Arts, among others. In addition, she completed her training as a professional actor at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy and worked for several years as a freelance performer in New York. In 2004 she moved to Berlin to focus on creating her own pieces.

Sullivan’s work focuses on the physicality of language; the interaction of poetry and movement. “13 poems in a body” (2009), “Broken: Part I” (2010) as well as “13 poems in a body – part one: take two” (2011) explore this theme. She started working with live musicians as part of her performances, as in “S.N.A.K.E. – metamorphosis in progress” (2014), in “the story written on the butterfly’s tongue” (2017), and in her most recent piece “THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN F. & F.”.

Artist Statement (Extract)

“Mich interessieren strukturell in der Gesellschaft verankerte Ungleichheiten, die vorwiegend Frauen* und Menschen of Colour betreffen. Welchen Impact haben Gewalt, Exklusion und Marginalisierung auf ihren Alltag? Hierfür erforsche ich im Wechselspiel von privat und politisch ästhetische Positionen.”

RAMAL ENSEMBLE is a group of Syrian musicians that was founded in Damascus in 2011 and moved to Berlin in 2016. The project creates interaction between traditional oriental music and western classical music; juxtaposing authentic performances like in traditional Arabian music and the structure of western classical compositions.

The ensemble combines traditional Middle Eastern music and contemporary-modern music. Their style travels across the different musical backgrounds of its members and therefore varies between Arabic maqam and classical western harmonies or structures. One special thing about the Ramal Ensemble: it also presents its own works, in which the four musicians combine stylistic elements of European classical music with traditional Syrian-Oriental musical forms in a virtuoso manner. This virtuosity gives the music new authenticity and lively expression.

BERLINER OPERNGRUPPE

The Berliner Operngruppe e. V. was founded in 2010 by the conductor Felix Krieger in order to present operas in Berlin that stand outside the usual opera repertoire and have either never been heard here or have not been heard for many decades. After the first performances in Radialsystem V, the Berliner Operngruppe has been performing in the Konzerthaus Berlin with its project choir and orchestra since 2013. The highly regarded semi-staged productions by the Berliner Operngruppe include the German premiere of Donizetti’s Betly and the Berlin premiere of Verdi’s Stiffelio and Puccini’s Edgar.

In February 2020 the Berliner Operngruppe celebrated its 10th anniversary with Mascagni’s Iris.

THE OSZILLATORS are an experimental live band from Cologne (D) with a passion for Electronic Music and Jazz. They value experimentation with sound for its liberating quality and stray far from aesthetic archetypes and blueprints. Diving deep into the unknown, unheard and unplayed, their musical vocabulary increases with every concert, surveying more and more of what’s still to discover in modern music.

Relying only on their finely attuned performative skills, they conduct their “research” live and direct, letting the audience witness their explorative process. Implementing patterns of repetition, then again improvising with open minds (and hearts), they fluctuate between order and chaos, between the familiar and the innovative.

In 2021 The Oszillators staged a live streaming weekend, funded by a grant by Musikfonds e.V. which supports experimental music projects. In 2023, they received another grant from the same foundation for a tour throughout Germany in spring 2023.

BLUE COSMIC

They run for the sake of getting lost and go astray on the paths of the mind.

Through the limitless darkness of the night and the glaring of day they dance and tumble, drunken with bliss; from the outskirts of the preordained they draw mesmeric concepts.

They laugh in the face of the gaping abyss while turning their heads towards the stars.

Ask your shadow for a dance.

What the heck? Blue is cosmic.

MODESHA

Glaring moonlight disturbs the dark night. A lonesome melody coming from an old radio in a deserted world.
A rhythm as raw as the forest‘s nature and as monotonous as machine noises. From this mood the sound of MODESHA emerges.

MODESHA is a four-piece band based in Germany, infuenced by UK Bass Music, Trip-Hop, Dub and Electronic Pop Music. The band’s sound is made up of tender vocal (Melanie Ring) wrapped around impulsive lo-fi drum beats (Matthias Hetzer), a shattering sub bass (Steven Kuhlmann) and razor-sharp sawtooth synths (Benjamin Schulz). Facing the zeitgeist, the four musicians succeed in bridging the gap between genres, delivering unique and unconventional song structures and exploring the boundaries of sonic manipulation. The lyrics focus on the emotional struggles of themillennial generation.

Their debut EP „MODESHA“  released Autumn 2020 via all common streamingservices and is available on CD. Aiming for an international audience on club- and festival-stages, the band is constantly working on new music, visual concepts and a breath-taking live performance. There will be more releases in 2022.

djjuliimmaï‘s musical style is as capricious and diverse as life itself. Variations of house and minimalism blend smoothly with ritualistic music from around the globe.

His Deep Hypnotic Sounds mesmerize crowds, turning the dance floor into a spiritual place. The element of hypnosis is key in Juli’s idea and performance of electronic music.

Born 1982 in Lübeck, serendipitously on the day of a massive city festival, it didn’t take very long for Juli to become a resident DJ at the Lübecker Eishaus Club at the age of 18. After moving to Berlin in 2006, he was deeply inspired by a then rapidly evolving techno scene. Heavily influenced by the famous Bar 25 and the Fusion Festival, djjuliimmaï took his experience to Freiburg, then running the White Rabbit Club.

From there, in 2016, the record-spinning hypnotist launched his own series of club & festival events:
Moody Music & Kundalini-Express! They also took off internationally and djjuliimmaï fell in love with the Hungarian music scene. He spent years there, maintaining the local underground music scene by organizing events in plenty of Hungarian venues for electronic music: → Feszek → Akvarium → Szimpla Kert → Lärm → il Panorama
This included curation, sound engineering, lighting- & stage design, and also catering.

Because of his deep love for festivals, Juli’s most cherished moments were his performances at the Sziget Festival, Taka Tuka and the Ozora Festival, where he’s been a resident DJ ever-since. The DEEP HYPNOTIC SOUNDS have been featured on podcasts by
→ kośa → Planet Ibiza
→ deep & smooth → Kollektiv.Liebe

SCHATZKI‘s music is the negative version of her experience as a classical pianist. She applies her virtuoso skills to electronic punkrock while approaching a variety of keyboard instruments in unconventional ways. Her playful songwriting revolves around the struggle between awareness and self-destructive tendencies. The lyrics examine facets of dealing with emotional trauma, self-doubt and social expectations.

Schatzki (Sarit Shatzky) rebels against conformity and the world of classical music by merging her expertise as a pianist, singer, composer and choreographer. At the age of 6 she began studying the piano but felt increasingly pressured by her busy practice schedule. As a teenager Schatzki escaped the constant striving for technical perfection by immersing herself in the Tel Aviv underground music scene.

This experience sparked Schatzki’s fascination with Punk Rock, Heavy Metal and Goth. At 16, she formed her first punk band and began Djing in Tel Aviv’s underground punk clubs. After an education as a Jazz Dance teacher at Studio B Schatzki was working as a sound engineer and became the lead singer of Israel’s cult band Eatliz.

Since 2006 Schatzki performs internationally as a solo musician. After relocating to Berlin she created the electronic rock duo AllesKlar! as a feminist answer to chauvinistic rap. The provocative songwriting and the electronic productions inspired her current project SCHATZKI, where she can now finally pour her heart out.
